TN govt gives Rs 55 cr to Delta farmers
Chennai, Jun 02, 2016, DHNS:

The AIADMK government on Wednesday announced a Rs 55-crore package for delta farmers to take up Kuruvai cultivation in six districts.
This comes even as the Tamil Nadu government said it will not be able to open the sluice gates of the Mettur dam as scheduled on June 12.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said the water level at the dam, the lifeline of the delta farmers, has reduced to 45.82 feet. The dam can be opened only if the water level is about 90 feet, she said.
Even if the Karnataka government releases 10 tmcft water in June as per the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, there will only be 61 tmcft in the Mettur reservoir.
