Monsoon active in Kerala

A day after the Southwest Monsoon set in over Kerala, rain continued to lash parts of the state.  According to the India Meteorological Department, the monsoon has further advanced to remaining parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, coastal and south-interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Kochi and other parts of Ernakulam district have been receiving steady rainfall over the past couple of days. 

On Thursday, there was some respite for residents of inundated areas in Kochi as water started to recede in low-lying areas of the city. 

In the coastal belts of Thrissur district, sea erosion caused damage to homes. 
Rainfall remained scattered in Thiruvananthapuram city on Thursday.

Vaikom in Kottayam district and Enamackal in Thrissur (12 cm each), Piravom in Ernakulam district (11 cm), Nilambur in Malappuram district and Kakkanad in Ernakulam district (10 cm each) are among the stations which recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall. Between June 1 and June 8, Kerala has received 166 mm rainfall, a 9% jump on normal rainfall for the period.

The meteorological centre in Thiruvananthapuram has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of the state till Saturday morning. The Southwest Monsoon had set in over Kerala and Lakshadweep on Wednesday.
