Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and her predecessor Omar Abdullah argued angrily in the Legislative Assembly on Monday over the establishment of Sainik colony.
Mehbooba accused Omar Abdullah of spreading rumours on Twitter. As soon the House assembled here on Monday morning, Independent legislator Sheikh Abdul Rashid stormed into the well with a copy of a newspaper demanding explanation on an article, which suggested Sainik colony, a separate residential complex for former servicemen, was being set up around the airport area.
To this, Mehbooba accused the opposition and some newspapers of raising a “non-issue” which can lead to disruption of peace in the state.
The chief minister also lashed out at leader of opposition in the House and former chief minister Omar Abdullah over his tweets, who hit back, saying it was to make her accountable and he won’t back down from speaking on issues of public interest through the social media.
Mehbooba also accused some newspapers of being part of a desperate and sustained campaign by certain quarters to destabilise the situation and put Kashmir on fire again. “They (newspapers) want to put Kashmir on fire. Why don’t they investigate first and then report?” she asked.
The chief minister said that her government was supportive of the media, but warned that they would act if “unsubstantia
