Kashmir violence: J&K Police produce girl before Chief Judicial Magistrate

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday produced the girl, who was said to be molested by a soldier, before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Handwara.
The girl, who along with her father appeared in the court, stood by her earlier statement that she was not molested by a soldier on Tuesday.
“In her statement before the judicial magistrate, she said that on 12-04-2016, after school hours while proceeding to her home along with her friends, she entered a public lavatory near main chowk Handwara for answering the call of nature,” a police spokesman said.
“As soon as she came out of lavatory, she was confronted, assaulted and dragged by two boys and her bag was snatched. One of the boys was in school uniform,” she told the magistrate, according to the spokesman.
The girl was produced before the CJM along with her father to comply the order of the J&K High Court, he added.
The high court had on Saturday directed the police to declare law and authority under which it detained the girl, her father and maternal aunt.
The girl was said to be molested by an army man in Handwara town on April 12, evoking protests and subsequent killing of five civilians in army firing.
The court had directed the police to produce the trio before the nearest CJM or Judicial Magistrate while it asked the government to file objections to the petition. It, however, asked the authorities concerned not to produce the minor girl before print and electronic media.
However, the mother of the minor victim had on Saturday charged that the army man followed her daughter into washroom that forced her to scream for help. She had claimed that the J&K Police pressured her daughter to give a statement in defence of the army.
