EC concerned about use of indelible ink
NEW DELHI, Nov 19, 2016, DHNS

In the wake of five states holding bypolls on Saturday, the Election Commission has written to the finance ministry asking it to ensure that the use of indelible ink by banks does not cause confusion.
The ministry, however, said the commission was consulted on the use of the ink much before the move was thought about.
The ministry also said that banks are applying indelible ink on the right index finger, while it is on the left for poll purposes. “Indelible ink is put on the left finger during elections, so we have directed banks to put it on the right hand,” Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikant Das said.
The government resorted to the move on Wednesday after revenue intelligence agencies reported misuse of the provision to exchange notes. Many people were being used by those holding black money to stand in queue to exchange notes multiple times.
Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bangal, Tamil Nadu and Tripura go to polls on Saturday.
