CONG. DECLINES COMMENT ON FOTEDAR’S CLAIM

The Congress neither agreed nor disagreed with the claims made by its senior leader M.L. Fotedar that Indira Gandhi wished her grand-daughter Priyanka to be the heir apparent of the party.

Mr. Fotedar writes in his upcoming book “Chinar Leaves” that when he accompanied Indira Gandhi to Kashmir, she told him that Ms. Priyanka has the potential to lead the country for a long period. Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma Tuesday said no one in the party is privy to what transpired between Mr. Fotedar and Indira Gandhi in 1984.
