Three temporary bus stands to be set up for Deepavali
The city police have announced that buses proceeding towards Thanjavur, Pudukottai, and Madurai routes would be operated from temporary bus stands from November 5 to 15 in connection with Deepavali festival to ease congestion.
Accordingly, buses proceeding in the Thanjavur route would be operated close to the State Transport Corporation bus depot near the Sona Mina theatre.
Pudukottai route
Pudukottai route buses will be operated from the Old Illupur Road at Mannarpuram while those plying on the Madurai route would be operated from the Madurai service road at Mannarpuram.
Buses proceeding to other destinations would be operated as usual from the central bus stand.
Arrangements have been made to operate circular buses by the State Transport Corporation from the central bus stand to the temporary bus stands at Mannarpuram, a police press release here said. Last year, the defence land at Mannarpuram served as the temporary bus stand for the Deepavali festival.
However, this time around the military ground has not been chosen as it is prone to become slushy in the monsoon season posing hardship for travellers.
They pointed out that ground was used as a temporary bus stand last year, but the rain had created problem with the entire ground turning slushy and slippery.
