Burning of dalits: What do you mean by photo op? I will visit again, Rahul Gandhi says

NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi lost his temper on Wednesday after a reporter asked him whether his visit to a Haryana village, where a dalit family was set on fire, was a photo opportunity.

"Why is it a photo opportunity? People are dying left, right and centre in this country. What do you mean by photo-op? I will visit again and again," a visibly agitated Rahul Gandhi told reporters.

On Tuesday, two children of a dalit family were burnt alive and their parents suffered serious injuries after some people, allegedly from an upper caste, poured petrol on them while they were sleeping and set them and their house on fire.

"The father says his children were killed for no fault of theirs. Their only fault is that they are poor," Rahul Gandhi said after meeting kin of the dalit family, including the father of the children, in Sunped village on Wednesday.

"In Haryana, the government is not of the weaker and poorer sections," the Congress VP said. "This is an attitude shared by PM, CM and BJP-RSS. If somebody is weak, they can be crushed. What you are seeing is the result of this attitude."

Villagers have blocked the Ballabgarh-Faridabad highway demanding the arrest of all the accused.
